Missed calls are a solvable problem
Most small businesses lose work not because they're bad at what they do, but because nobody was free to pick up the phone. We think that's a software problem now.
Why we built this
A plumber on a job can't answer the phone. A dental practice with one person on reception can't answer three calls at once. A salon closes at six, and the person who wanted to book at half past seven books somewhere else instead. None of this is a failure of effort — it's a staffing problem that only disappears if you can afford to hire someone to sit by the phone, which most small businesses can't.
The usual answers aren't good ones. Voicemail converts badly, because people looking for a service will simply call the next result. Call centres are expensive and read from a script that doesn't know your business. Chatbots built on decision trees frustrate everyone the moment a question falls outside the flowchart.
What changed is that a language model can now hold a real conversation, and can be made to answer from a specific set of documents rather than from whatever it absorbed during training. That combination — genuinely conversational, but grounded in your price list and your policies — is what makes an AI Business Agent worth having rather than merely novel.
What we're careful about
An assistant that speaks confidently and gets your prices wrong is worse than no assistant at all. So the product is built around a few positions we're not willing to trade away:
Grounded, or silent
The assistant searches your documents before it answers. When the answer isn't there, it escalates instead of improvising.
Your data stays yours
Each workspace is isolated at the row level. Your documents and transcripts are used to answer your customers — not to train a shared model.
Minutes, not projects
If setup needs a consultant, it's the wrong product for the businesses we're building it for. The whole flow is meant to fit in a lunch break.
A person is always reachable
The assistant is the first line, not a wall. Every conversation can reach a human, and the handoff carries the full transcript.
Who it's for
Agentra is built for businesses where a booking is worth real money and a missed call is a lost customer: dental and medical practices, trades and home services, salons and clinics, garages, veterinary practices, professional services. If your phone ringing out means someone else got the work, this is aimed at you.
It is not built to be a general-purpose chatbot platform, and we're not trying to be one.
